Christmas 75% Off!

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. Just wanted to let you know that the remaining Christmas items are marked down 75%! (Sale items are located behind the hutch on the shelf that resembles a bird cage.) It is never too early to start shopping for next Christmas :) You will be glad you did!
I've been a Busy Bee placing orders, looking at a few new lines, working on end of year duties like inventory, and contemplating a move to the other side of the elevator, which looks like is going to happen! Boxes of new items are on the way so I am buzzing around trying to get my act together (plan for the new layout, new display pieces, etc!) I am a little overwhelmed and not sure how all of this will fall into place but am very excited. So if you get a chance to stop by and things look a little off, just know that I am working to get things Bee-utiful ASAP!
Thanks to everyone who has been a Bee Angels customer, friend, and/or Blog reader this year. I appreciate you more than you will ever know!
Best wishes to you and yours for 2010!
(The Shops will be closed New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.)

Bee Gourdy...

I know...Christmas is still more than two months away, but the Busy Bee finally has her act somewhat together! As I mentioned earlier, mom (officially the Queen Bee...probably the main reason the Busy Bee has her act together) and I have been busy creating Garnished Gourds (like the new name?!?). I thought it was more appropriate. When I began calling them Goofy Gourds last year it was way before I decided to incorporate crosses in the designs. And crosses are way too serious to be called goofy...so hence the name change. (Thanks to my sis and cousin who helped brainstorm with the good ole' thesaurus one Friday night...I know, you want to come party with us!)
Garnished Gourds will not be available at Bee Angels until sometime after Halloween...but I wanted to let you guys see this year's collection ahead of time (hey, Bee Angels' Best Buddies deserve special treatment!) Speaking of which, if you see one you want (there is only one of each design), let me know, and I will make sure you get it...well, the first to let me know, gets it...ha, don't I just wish they were that popular :) So here is my plan. Almost everyday until Halloween I will post a Garnished Gourd or two. There are twenty in all this year. See the before picture below:
Each comes with a certificate that says:
This certifies that you are the proud owner of a one-of-a-kind Garnished Gourd. This Garnished Gourd was home planted, grown and watered by local gourd farmers. It was later harvested, sawed, sanded, wood burned, and stained with love. Cherish the imperfectness which accompanies this hand crafted gift.
Merry Christmas 2009

And an optional addition: The Queen Bee designed and created the cutest keepsake/gift boxes this year. As you can see in the picture at the top of this post, each features a unique gourd button! Choose one to keep your Garnished Gourd all nice and secure after Christmas is over or use one to "gift wrap" any present!

One more bit of exciting Christmas news...If the natural, woodsy Garnished Gourd is not quite your look, Bee Angels is working on another one-of-a-kind gift for you...check back to get a preview shortly!

Garnished Gourds will soon be available at Bee Angels in the Shops of River Square Center.

Bee Sticky Rich...

What? I decided to look up the word torte in the dictionary to get the definition. Torte: Literally, cake, esp. of a rich variety; specif., a sticky cake made of nuts, fruits, white of egg, often crumbs, and very little, if any, flour. Now I will share my pear recipe #2. After I did not find my pear cake recipe in my notebook, I decided to search on Kraftfoods.com. I did not find a recipe similar to the "lost" recipe, but decided to try this one instead.

Almond Pear Cream Cheese Torte
1/2 c. (one stick) butter or margarine, softened
1 c. sugar, divided
1 c. flour
1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
1 egg
1/2 t. vanilla
1/2 t. ground cinnamon
4 fresh pears, peeled, sliced
1/4 c. sliced almonds

Heat oven to 425F. Beat butter and 1/3 c. sugar in a small bowl with mixer until light and fluffy. Add flour; mix well. Press onto bottom and 1 inch up side of 9-inch springform pan. Beat cream cheese and 1/3 c. of the remaining sugar in same bowl with mixer until well blended. Add egg and vanilla; mix well. Spread onto bottom of crust. Mix remaining sugar and cinnamon. Add to pears in large bowl; toss to coat. Arrange over cream cheese layer; top with nuts. Bake 10 minutes. Reduce temperature to 375F; bake 25 minutes or until center is set. Cool completely. Run knife around rim of pan to loosen torte. Remove rim. Refrigerate torte for 3 hours.

I took this to share at our weekly family gathering at my Grandpa's house. Everyone seemed to like it, and my honey loved it! (that excites me since before this and the pear bread, he never touched a pear...before you know it, he may be climbing the tree to get him a fresh one!)

Bee Tasty...

Yum! I made this pear bread with pears from my uncle's tree last week. I was looking for a pear cake recipe I made a few years ago. I did not find it but came across this clipping I took from that insert in the newspaper called "American Profile." Recipes that include items that my family grows always catch my eye and when I get around to organizing my recipes again (one day!) I am going to have a section devoted entirely to this type...maybe I will title it "Overabundance" since that is normally the case :) Now after I finish eating this pear, I will type the recipe for you!
Pear Bread by: Jane Wiles

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 t. baking soda
1/4 t. baking powder
1 t. salt (I just did a little sprinkle)
1-1/2 t. cinnamon
3/4 c. vegetable oil (I used canola oil)
3 eggs, slightly beaten (I used rotten...j/k)
2 c. sugar
2 c. peeled and chopped pears
2 t. vanilla extract
1 c. chopped pecans or walnuts (optional) (I used pecans)

1. Preheat oven to 325F. Grease and flour two 8 1/2-by-4 1/2 inch loaf pans (I used two different sizes-not sure the measurement-but they both turned out great...with less cooking time.)

2. Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Mix eggs, oil, sugar, pears, and vanilla in a small bowl; add to flour mixture, stirring just until moistened. Stir in nuts, if using.

3. Spoon into pans. Bake 1 hour to 1 hour and 10 minutes, until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean. (Mine passed the wooden pick test after 50 minutes.) Cool 10 minutes before removing from pans. Slice when cool. Makes 2 loaves.

Enjoy! My honey and I had one loaf for breakfasts last week, and I shared the other. Everyone loved it...might need to visit the pear tree again this weekend!

Bee Spooky...

I LOVE Halloween. Costumes, hayrides, pumpkin carving, spooky decorations...so much fun! This year we are having a Halloween party at my sister and brother-in-law's house. Hopefully next year, my honey and I will be in the house we are currently building, and we can be the hosts! What are you doing for Halloween this year? Going to a party? Dressing up? Please share your plans by posting a comment...and send me any pics of costumes, decorations...anything scary, ghoulish, or boo-tiful.

Pumpkin platter available at Bee Angels in the Shops of River Square Center...know the best part??? This platter can serve double duty! Use it for Thanksgiving too! (Only one left! BUT new Halloween merchandise is arriving today during lunch-I will post a preview soon!)

Bee Welcoming to Fall...

Did you enjoy the crisp, cool, first week of Autumn as much as I did? What a relief from the heat! This weather gives me an extra burst of energy and inspiration...too bad not extra time on the clock, but I will take what I can get. This week, mom and I have been busy bees handcrafting gourds and keepsake boxes for Christmas. We hope to have them ready to sell during November and December instead of just a few weeks before Christmas like last year. Having a partner this time around has really helped! Thanks, mom. (She just couldn't resist the urge to join in the fun!) I have also been a busy bee in the kitchen...stay tuned for a couple wonderful pear recipes.Nature's Pottery gourds and gourd napkin rings (pictured above) were grown and handcrafted by your favorite, local Goofy Gourd farmers. (I also had a few other gourd creations that I meant to post pictures, but they sold before I got around to having a photo shoot...guess I can't complain about that though! Just maybe I will have time to make more...hehe)

Visit Bee Angels in the Shops of River Square Center to help welcome Fall.

If He Can Do It, So Can You!

Do what? Bee an Angel, of course. My honey had this cute gift waiting for me when I got home from work yesterday. Sweet and thoughtful no matter what...but boy was I impressed with his flower arranging skills. Yes, these all came from our yard. Thanks, honey! And I hope he can inspire you to go out and Bee an Angel too!

For more inspiration, visit Bee Angels in the Shops of River Square Center. New Closeout Sale section on the shelf that resembles a bird cage (across from Blue Flamingo's clothes). HUGE savings! It really is the thought that counts...not the price tag!
